What is the meaning of death?

How does death bring more life to your life?

Monday Me’s

Meaning of Life? Meaning of Death

We have all questioned before “What is the meaning of life”, but have we ever asked, “what is the meaning of death?”

Today’s Topics:

  • Dying at 25

  • Recalibrate Your Life

  • Question to journal

  • We’re All Eating Each Other

Dying at 25

Some people die at 25 and aren't buried until 75

Benjamin Franklin

This quote took me a bit to wrap my head around and I looked up various perspectives on how people understood this quote. From what I have looked up, most people have boiled it down to this: people end up giving up their dreams at 25 — therefore living to be dead inside and then won’t get buried until they die at 75.

How I see it is that life is more than just what your dreams are: it’s how you want to live your life. Plenty of people end up living a life that is designed by others: the usual rat race of the 9-5 to get a decent salary only reach the end and realize there is no meaning to that life. Choose how you want to live now instead of dying inside of other people’s meaning of life.

If you don’t choose how to live, people will impose how to live on you

Recalibrate Your Life

Life is filled with a bunch of “optimal” paths people will tell you to choose

Long-term goals are tricky as life throws you twists and turns as time passes. I’ve developed recalibration questions that has helped me stay true to my own values and therefore helped me create meaning in my own life and actions.

Recalibration Questions:
  • Weekly Question: How do this week’s actions align with my long-term goal? — Sometimes we get so bogged down by the details of our everyday actions that we stray away from our ultimate goal. Ask yourself this question to ensure that you are on the right path

  • Monthly Question: How have this month’s actions moved me closer to my long-term goal? What can I do next month to move closer? — Think about the bigger picture in what you have done in the past month. Did I push you towards your long-term goal?

  • Quarterly (3-month) Question: What have I learned in the past 3 months and how did it evolve my values? Do my values still align with my long-term goal? — 3 months can teach you a lot of things. Synthesize what you have learned and reflect on what you value. You’ll realize that sometimes your long-term goals don’t reflect your values, which means this is when you need to start pivoting. It’s ok to change your goals as long as you are pursuing something you value.

Question for you to journal:

How do you want to live? If the rest of the days of your life were to be the same as today would you still be happy?

We’re All Eating Each Other

This song has truly got me thinking about the idea of what it means to live:

So we paint our face with intellect
Pretending we're not curious
Too busy, super serious
Don't have the time to do what we like
Baby look at the sky

'Cause we're all gonna die
Decompose into daffodils and dandelions
The bees will use our flowers for whatever they like
Make the honey that our grandkids will put inside their morning tea
It's the thing of life

we’re all eating each other - Juliet Ivy

Don’t wait until after death for your body to decompose to have meaning. Stay curious and create meaning in your life when you’re living

That’s all for this Monday Me. Reply to this e-mail with any findings you have and let me know what topics you would like me to explore!
